of Marshal Li Chai-sum is much to be deplored,

both because he was a bond of union between the

Kwangtung and Kwangsi provinces and because, as a

man of peace and moderation, his regime had to a

large extent restored law and order and insured

the maintenance of friendly relations between

Canton and Hong Kong.
